The Omaha Beach Golf Club was
founded in 1985 by Guy Dupont
and was designed by the famous
golf architect, Yves Bureau who
designed many golf courses in
France and Egypt.
It offers three
9-hole courses : "The
Sea", with
its 6th hole overlooking the
English
Channel at the charming fishing
port of Port en Bessin ; "The
Pond"
quite challenging, and for
the more experienced
golfer
; "The
Hedgerow" featuring
shades of different greens
and rhododendrons.
The
Omaha Beach Golf Club is set
in a magnificent setting
overlooking the D-Day beaches,
close to
the Normandy American
Cemetery where
almost 10,000 American casualties
are at the rest, and close
to the charming Bayeux
and the "artificial
Port" at
Arromanches. A few of the scenes
of Steven
Spielberg's "Saving
Private Ryan" were filmed
on the golf course
which was liberated by the
American 1st Division.
on June 7, 1944.
It is
a favorite destination for
North American, British,
Northern European and Parisian
players.
